It is interesting in different industries, how much things can change. Customers in some industries tend to understand prices, while in others they find them to be very expensive compared to what they thought and they are not sure why. Over the past summer, I worked at 1-800-Got-Junk? who mainly works at homes to take away basically anything the customer is looking to get rid of, the majority of which is usually large pieces of furniture or appliances. The thing that often happened to us was when we asked the potential customers about there budget, most of the time they gave us a number completely unrealistic for our services. Most people simply do not think that the service will be as expensive as it is before they meet us. This happens a lot of the time. However, I had tons of satisfied customers over the summer despite there initial thoughts about how expensive the service to be. In each industry I would imagine there are certain things that are more required than others in sales in order to get customers. For my job, it was almost always required to explain our prices compared to our competition. This includes other services like ours and mainly companies who will drop dumpsters at your house and people can do all of the moving themselves. Most people don’t realize how expensive it is to have a dumpster rented and hauled off for you. After they realize how much such a service costs they are often very happy to pay us the extra amount we require to do it all for them and not have a dumpster sitting outside there house for a week. Very seldom did I have a potential customer that immediately understood why we charged as much as we did. It was just the way the job worked. In other industries you might not always have to explain our prices as much as we do, but for us it was pretty much always required. You had to be extremely comfortable with selling the process and what the customer was paying for because they were most definitely paying for it. Over the summer I met multiple repeat customers. I think that is one of the most satisfying experiences. Having provided an expensive service that people rehire you for because although it is expensive it is definitely worth it. It’s interesting what can often be the staple of certain jobs.
