Throughout this class, I have noticed a theme of sales and that theme is: doing the opposite of what is natural. While preparing for my sales conversation, I had to remember to take a beat in response to the other person and think about how to respond, because my natural instincts tell me to answer any question right away and talk about how good my service is. Another place I saw this is in some of the rules we studied. For example, the seagull rule. I would naturally assume that sales people tell you what to do “if they were you”. But that goes against what we have learned in class. Another place I notice this theme is in reversals. As a person who loves to talk to people, and wants conversation to be natural and seamless, this idea is difficult for me to do while talking to someone. This connects to how we can live out our faith in the world as well. We can go the opposite way of the world and show genuine love, passion, and humility in our workplaces. Jesus came to earth and went against so many cultural norms and did so many unexpected things that surprised the people around him. This theme developed as I advanced through the class.
