In this clip Mr. Incredible, as Bob Par, is unable to help his client and he knows it. However, rather than dismissing her, he helps her by referring her to someone else who he knows can definitely help. Bob cares about his clients and therefore is more inclined to help them even if he could get in trouble. In the old sales field this scenario would seem very bad, but today when salesmen do things like this it shows that they are good at what they do.
The idea of saying there is nothing you can do for a customer and referring them to someone else is often looked at as horrible selling. In today’s world however, being honest and straight forward with your customers is very important to selling. By doing things like referring a customer to someone else helps to create trust, and trust is of utmost importance in all selling scenarios. Though you are telling a potential customer to go somewhere else to buy a product or service, that customer may in fact return to you again for either advice or to actually buy. Furthermore, the trust that is created in this situation makes your whole company look reliable and trustworthy. It is important to always be creating good relationships with customers and showing them that you care for there well being and not only for your companies success.
Bob Par truly is a superhero, both in the office and out. I think you hit it on the nose when you said that normally referring people you can’t help to others is bad selling, but making good relationships with others really does pay off in the end.
