I recently applied, interviewed, and accepted a position at Howard Hanna for a summer internship. My position is in the accounting department so I won’t be participating directly with the sales process but I did get a better understanding of how the company operates and gives their sales pitch. I was asked the typical interview question of what I know about the business and following the Career Services Office’s advice I did do some research before hand. Howard Hanna is best known for selling homes but they also deal with mortgages, titles and insurances. They like to call themselves the ‘Walmart of Home Buying’ because they can provide people in the home buying market everything they need. There goal is to be the one stop shop for anyone trying to buy or sell a home.
Howard Hanna sees the pain in the hassle of buying and selling a home so they try to ease the pain for clients by providing all services in one spot. They identify the struggles of having to go around to different businesses for home buyers and they are giving them an option to avoid those struggles. Howard Hanna is the Walmart of Home Buying, and they use that fact to close the sale with potential clients.

Congrats on the internship! I find it fascinating to analyze different businesses to discover what pain point they have identified and how they are offering a solution to that pain.
Doing your research beforehand was a good idea! I bet they were impressed with how well you knew the company going into the interview. I haven’t heard of a company like them, but they seem to be filling a need.
