As a life long Pittsburgh sports fan I have been to many games for all three of our sports teams: Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. My favorite team to watch are the Pirates if I am able to go to a game. With all the craziness of the COVID-19, sports have not had the same attendance in many states. While some states are lifting their mandates on people and business which allow many sports teams to allow fans back into stadiums, what will this look like for the city of Pittsburgh?
Teams like the Penguins are now allowing fans back into the stadium, but there are a lot of seats still available. Teams like the Pirates are also allowing people into the stadiums as well during the preseason down in Florida. Tickets are also sold out for almost all home games in Pittsburgh when for the regular season begins; at least on StubHub.
As an active fan myself, this begs the question of where else we will see the sale of tickets. Penguins tickets in the upper rows are costing $65 while the closer you go to the ice the more the tickets are more expensive. Will people begin reselling tickets themselves and will there be able to be more fans in attendance as more states lighten the restrictions on COVID-19.
I personally think you will see people selling tickets more and more the longer that COVID-19 policies are being implemented. More people will be involved in some form of ticket sales if they want to be able to watch games in person. However, I do think you will see less of the individuals outside stadiums asking to buy and sell tickets.
Hopefully everything will go back to normal soon and we will be able to pack 2 of our 3 Pittsburgh stadiums and enjoy games in person.
I too am a huge Pittsburgh sports fan. I can not wait to get back in Heinz field waving my terrible towel. I also think people will continue reselling tickets for profit.
