Cart attendants manage the outside aspects of the golf course while working closely with the golf Professionals who work inside the shop. It is the cart attendant’s job to make sure the carts are taken out of the barn available for use for the players in the morning, and clean them and stock them away safely at night. But that is not where the value really comes into play from a cart attendant. Depending on the club, especially private, the cart attendant is the first person every player sees. The cart attendant greets the player and grabs his gear. This action is crucial when it comes to impressing the player and really selling the golf course as a whole.
Every good interaction the cart attendant has with a player is another reason as to why the player might come back to play again in the future. I personally work at a private golf and yacht club as a cart attendant and our process with how we interact with our members is our key selling point besides the actual course. Imagine, driving up to a drop off area where a cart attendant opens your trunk, greets you, and grabs all your gear. You drive off and park your car where you go inside the club to do whatever you need to do to prepare to play a round of golf. You walk outside to find your clubs, a water, and snacks all in a golf cart ready for you to drive off and play. All the while the cart attendant is re-greeting you and asking about your day. This whole sequence that happens behind the scenes that the members don’t see is very important. The only thing the players see is the end result when they walk up to go play their round and it is very crucial that the process is executed correctly. The feeling that each player gets when they are treated the way they are is our selling point that we relay on to bring them back to us in the future.
That same feeling that we attempt to sell at our club is the same feeling that businesses all over the world attempt to sell when customers walk into their environment. The workers selling it are the ones that are on the front lines and are usually underestimated as a selling point in a business. It is important that those people who are on the front lines are properly trained and prepared for any customer to walk through the door.
As a fellow Cart Attendant or as I like to say Transportation Manager I really enjoyed this post. The cart attendant is the salesperson for the club. They are usually besides members one of the only people you’ll see on the course. It is very important to keep the members happy and grow relationships because they can help you.
