Over this last summer, I decided I would use my time in a profitable and effective way. My friend who I had met on the soccer team in high school was also interested in making money and owning a type of business. So. when two minds meet, out comes greatness. We ended up deciding to choose something that involves more labor rather than online/social media work. Our top choice was detailing cars, and that’s where it all began. We both had a strong work ethic along with serious discipline when it came to serious topics or matters. Selling our services was hard at the beginning due to the lack of trust and experience. In order to build our knowledge and skills, I sold the idea to my parents to detail their cars for free, relieving the stress of messing up and having to pay out of pocket if we messed up. Eventually, we learned and mastered the skill of cleaning efficiently and effectively. Our first marketing strategy was to go on a neighborhood app called next-door.  This is a user-friendly app that let us promote our services with proper professionalism. Eventually, we landed our first client, which followed with a strong 5-star review. Because we weren’t trusted like we wanted, we had to tank our prices extremely low so the buyers would be interested. Sale after sale we started building up our business portfolio and gaining trust. We eventually upped our charges from $150 per car to $350 per car. All that mattered was the demographic we were aiming for, our skills, professionalism, and trust. We eventually ended up landed clients in a rich neighborhood, leading to us landing our best few clients tipping around $400 every time we did the service. Lastly, we made business cards and promoted our service as such along with WOM. Getting started was hard but being professional and efficient ended us with around 15 cars per week.

  1. I think this story shows the right way of starting small and progressing forward towards success in increments. I think the marketing strategy was sound, and the thought of trying to target the correct demographic was good.
