In this scene, Ford is trying to get in on the action by joining the racing industry. To start, the seller was attempting to sell by using PowerPoint slides while describing how they are stuck in the old days of cars. He suggests a new age where young people can drive newer/cooler cars. He also shows famous people who do not own Ford cars. One of these examples was James Bond. This is a common sales tactic that we often see in commercials. They get someone famous to be the face of their company. While a valent effort, the James Bond tactic did not work on the president of Ford. The PowerPoint then begins to malfunction, and the VP questions the sellers job performance over the past years. However, the seller preserves and continues to stick with his plan. He claims that they need to start thinking differently, even saying that Ferrari go down in history as a better name than Ford. essentially, he seeks quality of quantity. He wants Fords cars to mean something. This sales tactic is strong and tailors to the president of Ford. If you have seen the movie, the president is very prideful and wants Ford to succeed more than anything else. He wants to live up to his family’s name. The seller uses this to his advantage when all seemed lost in order to tug on the emotions of the Mr. Ford. The seller suggests La Monte as a race that Ford should enter in order to gain supremacy over Ferrari. Lastly, the seller has some information to further influence Mr. Ford’s decision by telling him that Ferrari is bankrupt. This further incentivizes Mr. Ford to create this race car to beat Ferrari while they’re down. With these sales tactics, the seller was able to help create one of Ford’s greatest successes in history.

  1. Great movie. I love this scene. Thanks for commenting on it. Thinking about this scene in context with the class, at first it seems that he was trying to sell to Ford by talking about things that were not important to the Ford. Then he shifted, recognizing what was important to Ford, and that tactic was much more successful.
