I was in Walmart the other day and as I was walking out a man comes up to me and starts to say say something before he can get his sentence out I notice the signs on their table and see that they’re selling roofs And I quickly say, sorry, I don’t have a home. To which he responds, do your parents have a home? My response, sorry, I’m not interested in doing that. Have a good day. I’m always impressed by the persistence of salesmen like this guy. How do you sell to people when all they want to do is walk right past you and get back to their car? And maybe more importantly, how do you not feel discouraged? I can’t imagine very many people stop and talk to this guy. I think some of the things we talked about in class about not taking the rejection personally and not seeing it as a rejection against you but as the salesman version of you.

Yeah, I am always interested how much someone sells at the booths in front of stores. A lot of people walk right past them, myself included. I think it’s about knowing the customers before they even see you, which is not something I assume they do. Having a roof company in front of Walmart vs. say, Home Depot feels different. In one way, you’re the product and selling yourself. It’s about product placement, marketing to the right market, and not forcing anything on random customers.
