Coach D gave an awesome lecture last week focusing on the need and want for a trustworthy relationship in business. He appointed a fair portion of his lecture to instilling the following equation into our heads: TRUTH = ABILITY + INTENT

The whole idea is that one must be physically, mentally, and spiritually able to do one’s job to the best of one’s ability, but with good, positive intent for the glory of God. And with that ability and intent, we are able to create a relationship of trust, in any situation. But specifically in sales, customers can often see right through a salesperson’s manipulation and sneaky sales, and no one enjoys being manipulated. It is so important to build a relationship of trust with customers especially if you are focusing on long-term sales. I think that Coach D emphasized this importance from a Christian perspective in a simple, impactful, easy to remember way, Truth = Ability + Intent.

Zechariah 8:16-17 Says, “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.”

I think this is such a strong reminder that God is very clear. He tells us exactly what he is looking for from us and he draws the line clearly on what he distains. I think it is so powerful that he clearly says here be truthful and honest for he HATES it if you are not. That is crystal clear, and if we are people looking to build a relationship with God, to honor him, and love him, how could we then intentionally do something we know him to hate? Coach D gave us a key takeaway about sales that we cannot forget.
