If you make something a ‘special’ it will most likely become popular, especially if its directed towards college students. We have a ton of different types at Grove City College. For the all day every day special we have Coffaro’s with the College Special. Then there is the special time specials like Primanti’s or Eat ‘n Park’s late night discounts. There are also the daily specials like the ones at the Broad Street Grill, where Wednesdays seem to draw the biggest sales. And then there are holiday specials, most notable and recent Cinco de Mayo where almost every restaurant had some sort of taco special. All of these specials have been very successful in convincing Grove City College students into a sale.
The special appeals to college students because it comes across as getting something for a discounted price. Most college students look for any way to save money, so making something appear to be discounted will bring in more sales from college students. Adding the word sale or special makes any price more enticing to someone trying to save money. Local Grove City businesses have a strong understanding of who they targeting and how to make the sale to them.
I have always been interested in the idea of a ‘special’. It is beneficial to businesses because it creates a sort of scarcity ‘today only’ or ‘until supplies last’.
I’ve been learning about how sales impact the market economically. Sales work – they drive the demand up, and as long as the supply can meet the demand most companies can make a killing.
Specials are life. I love the Chicken Tender Quesadilla special in the SAC on Thursday nights!
