Growing up I was a really nervous kid who was very reluctant to in social situations. I hated introducing myself and speaking in public. thankfully my father knew the importance of networking and being social. I watched him closely, it seemed to come very naturally to him and he was truly a great salesman in every aspect. as a kid he would point people out and “ask” me to introduce myself to them, he would put me in awkward situations to see how id react to the pressure. I remember hating it every time, but in the end I learned it was never as bad as it seemed
After breaking my fear of people I asked my dad to teach some fundamental sales skills that would help me in the future. he immediately responded saying “cold calling” and “door to door”. over one summer he began to teach me both of these skills. first I worked for his company making cold calls to potential clients. at first I stumbled over my words and got rejected plenty of times. door to door selling didn’t go much better. i told my dad, the only thing im learning is how to get rejected, he responded with “exactly”
little did i know that sales is about taking rejection and picking yourself. the more you get rejected the more you learn to avoid it and start closing sales. i am very thankful for the life lessons sales provides. sales skills have proven themselves to be incredibly useful in so many areas of my development.
