A Cricut is an electronic cutting machine that precisely cuts, scores, and writes on hundreds of different materials, including paper, vinyl, and fabric. It connects via Bluetooth to its own “Design Space” software on a computer or phone. People can use a Cricut to make custom projects such as t shirts, vinyl stickers/decals, cards, and much more. It is the perfect tool for people who love to craft and make DIY projects.

Last year in May I received a Cricut for my birthday and I was able to start my own little business over the summer. I started off creating some small things like cards and paper crafts, but soon learned how to make vinyl decals, iron-on transfers for shirts, and more. I’ve always loved designing and selling, so this was the perfect thing for me to make some money.

Starting to sell my projects to customers made me think about sales differently than I had before. Not only did I have to think about how much to charge, but I had to think about how to give people what they were looking for at the best price. Before I started working on a project, I talked to my customer to find out what kind of product they were looking for. I used many of the sales techniques we have talked about it class before ever officially taking a sales class. I asked a lot of questions to get to the pain point of my customer, and then figured out how to offer them what they were looking for.

After working with a few different customers on multiple projects, it became easier for me to get to the pain quickly. I figured out what questions I needed to ask to find out what they were looking for and why. I can then tell them if I think I will be a good fit for them, and see if they would like to move forward. So far, I’ve had success designing for people and I hope to continue getting new customers and working with existing ones.
