Founding a business requires selling. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, one must be tactful in selling the idea of their company. Forbes addresses this concept providing several essential facts every founder should know regarding selling. One of the suggestions I found most interesting was, to consider the diversity of potential market segments. The article goes into further detail explaining how selling to everyone in the same way will ultimately lead to failure. Marketing specific to gender and a target market are essential in entrepreneurial pursuits. Being specific in a target market allows for the founder to better fulfill the needs and desires of their potential customers. Another point that drew my attention was the importance of finding ways to create brand awareness. Brand awareness will make or break your business. When discussing a product, is your company one of the first to come to mind? In order for consistent sales to occur, clients must have you in mind when buying. Brand awareness can be achieved through ads, merch, and recommendations. These stream lines to the public must be unique enough that they stand out amongst competitors. It is crucial to have as much exposure as possible but to also make it memorable exposure. Finally, when beginning a business endeavor, don’t be afraid to say no. There is nothing wrong with striving for profit but changing business strategy for short term gains can be a slippery slope. Diverging into too many areas will cause the business and the founder to lose focus. When a business’s focus is lost, it is hard to do one thing exceptionally well. By investing into the core concept of the business and that one concept alone, it sets up the company and founder for greater long term success. I have seen these ideas acted upon within the realm of entrepreneurs and they have resulted in great success. If I ever begin a business, I will be enacting this advice.
