In season 3 of Malcom in the middle, Malcom’s goofy brother Reese gets into air purifier sales. He needs money to help pay for his car insurance, so he goes to a shady air purifier company who is very disorganized and inefficient at selling. He quickly became a top salesman using very unorthodox manipulation tactics. At one point he even at tells a colleague to, “Remember the ABCs of sales, always be selling”. This looks like a funny joke at face value, but in reality, it helps support the stereotype of the greasy manipulative salesperson. We always have to remember that selling is to benefit both parties and not just to exploit the buyer, but to help uncover their pain.
