Over these past few weeks, I had the opportunity to write and deliver a club talk for my Young Life club. A club talk is like a pitch or a story about Jesus, and specifically goes into who He is, what sin is, and how Jesus died for our sins on the cross. For my club talk, I wrote about Jesus’ character and how he was compassionate. Selling how Jesus was compassionate can be hard because finding the right Bible passage or story can be tricky. I ended up choosing Jesus and Lazarus for my Bible passage because the kids could understand this story and relate to it. Selling a good Young Life club talk can be hard because you have to know your audience and how they will take in the information you give them. It can also be hard because you have to capture the attention of the kids and find a way to relate it to their lives too. But, delivering and selling a good club talk can be made easier by practicing, knowing your stuff, being excited and enthusiastic about what you’re selling, and having confidence. Every club talk won’t always be the best, but practicing and knowing the content helps it go over smoothly with the kids. Yesterday at Young Life club, one of my co-leaders Hayley delivered a great club talk because she learned how to sell and pitch it to our kids. She learned how to ask good engaging questions and how her target audience would perceive the message. Her club talk was on sin, and specifically what sin is and how sin led us to separation from God. She didn’t spill all her candy in the lobby and that helped our kids understand the topic a lot better. Taking the time to explain different types of sin and how they related to our lives helped the kids to understand the importance of the topic.
