On Saturday, I had the opportunity to help volunteer during the Spring Preview Day for current high school juniors who were starting their college search. During this, we got to hand out chocolate and vanilla cake pops to the prospective students and their parents. While doing this, we were also supposed to interact with them and get to know their stories better. When we were handing out cake pops, we were also selling the entrepreneurship department and Grove City College to the prospective students. One of the prospective students that me and Rebekah talked to was a guy who was interested in the business department and what they had to offer. He and his mom wanted to learn more about the Entrepreneurship department and what we offer. I got to answer a question with a question and got to learn more about their pain points. We both were also following up if they had any more questions that we could answer or give input on anything they were curious about. It was also fun to use my sales skills and sell him on taking a status sheet and talking to Professor Sweet afterwards to learn more about the program. I also remember talking to a girl who was with her mom, and how they were interested in getting a cake pop and learning more about entrepreneurship. When we were talking we learned how she didn’t know what major to commit as or where she wanted to go to college. This was important advice because we wanted to gather more information instead of dumping a lot of information about a major she might not be interested in. This was also important to get to know more about her and how she heard about Grove City College. We also ended up talking to a history professor about what the entrepreneurship does and what kind of businesses we wanted to start after college.

  1. This is a great post about how sales were used at Spring Preview Day. You were trying to get to know people and their stories while also figuring out if the entrepreneurship department at Grove City College would be a good fit for them. And even better, handing out cake pops while doing it!
