At the end of my freshman year of high school my parents realized that the school I was attending was heading in a direction that they did not like. They then started searching for other Christian schools in the area. During the summer going into my sophomore year, I went to a soccer camp at another high school. During this camp I met the head coach and assistant coach. They told me that if I transferred, I would start on the varsity team. This piqued my interest and led me to tour the school. I saw that the school was bigger than my previous school and had much nicer facilities. After meeting people at the school, I knew that it would be a good fit for me. The soccer coach was who really sold me on the school. He took it upon himself to build a relationship with me and my parents as well as put me in touch with other students who were on the team. He also explained a lot of details about what my experience at the school would be if I transferred. He knew that I would not just be going to school for soccer and that there were other factors that would determine where I went to school. My older brother was going into his senior year at the time and also started looking at the school. He decided before me that he wanted to transfer. The ability of my soccer coach to build a relationship with me and my brother played a pivotal role in our transferring. It was also apparent through his actions that he cared about us and wanted us to be able to experience the things the school had to offer. This shows how relationship building is crucial for selling and being personable and meeting the needs of the buyer.

This is an interesting story and great personal application of sales. It’s cool that you could look back with a new perspective after learning some things about sales in class.
