Last week as one of our class meetings we had a Grove City alum named Brandon Tigges speak about his experience in college and post grad getting a job in tech sales. The lecture was very interesting in a multitude of ways. First of all, hearing his story about how he admittedly was not the greatest student in college but was able to turn things around in the job world was very interesting. This was interesting because he made sure to highlight how much of working in sales is about the soft skills that you may not necessarily be graded on. Things like being competitive, being able to form good relationships with potential employers, and having a good work ethic are all things that you can be very good at and grow in during college, but that may not be reflected in the grades you get in class. On top of this, Brandon was also very passionate about helping students get great jobs out of college in any way possible. He not only went over what he did to get leads and connections, which was helpful in and of itself, but he also made sure to give us his contact information as well as a 6-page article on how we can proficiently search for jobs. This passion for helping others was very inspiring to see. All in all the lecture was very helpful and I will definitely come back to the things I have learned from it when searching for jobs and even after I secure one.

This was a great lecture as he shows charisma and energy which are two aspects of a great salesperson. Also, great that he was so interested in us and wanting to give back to Grove. Great post.
It was really cool to hear about Brandon’s journey from Grove City to the tech scene of Austin, Texas. Brandon taught us something about tenacity and perseverance through his journey. It was also refreshing to hear how a Grove City alum was so eager to help out current Grove City students.
