The world of sales has changed a lot throughout the years but most recently there have been multiple resources that individuals can use to boost sales and market products for smoother transactions. With the relatively new development of Instagram and Snapchat in the last 10 years there has been a whole new world of marketing to where individual sellers or big corporate companies can go in and create accounts to post or make videos describing their products to a very large audience. Me and my buddy recently experimented with this new way of marketing and sales, and we learned a lot from it. It eliminates a lot of face-to-face elements such as body language and learning about the customer. It streamlines directly to the product and makes it up to the buyer whether they would like to purchase or not, but there are ways to entice the buyer into making the final decision that aren’t normal sales skills. Say we were making a video; you can make a specific intro that hooks the buyer’s interest into watching the beginning of the video of the item you were trying to promote. You wouldn’t typically use this on a human face to face because you would sound like a robot, but with the online world and video formats you can use it is a normalized thing on the Internet. The electronic age has opened a ton of doors for the world of sales, and people are capitalizing off it big time because of outlets like social media. It is an area of the younger generation that is mainly taking control of though simply because of the fact that they are more tuned in in the understanding of how social media is built to lure people in. They use that to their advantage by incorporating products to sell. I’m sure this will only become a bigger thing as time goes by.

  1. I think this is a really cool topic to talk about. I agree with you that a lot of big companies are using these social media platforms to reach more people. But as you touched on, customers attention span is getting shorter with this new style of short form content. So as a seller of a product you have to create a video that will grab the customers attention from the start. These new tools can help sellers find and work with more prospects.
